About the artist:

Vero Mendoza is a Zapotec woman from Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico. She has been working with natural dyes and creating her own tapetes, blankets, and more. One of her sweetest memories is from when she was a child, carried on her mother's back with a rebozo as her mother washed wool in the river to prepare it for their textiles. Her mother cared for her, nurtured her, and taught her everything she knew. This traditional art form sustained them, but after her mother’s passing, Vero couldn't weave for three years due to the heartache. This year, she is resuming her mother’s legacy and gently finding her way back home. When her hands are on the loom, she feels her mother guiding every thread. She senses her mother in the essence of every element and sees her magic in the completion of each piece. "When I weave, we are together again—she is here with me."
